Chatham County News

Last Monday the Chapel Hill Board of Realtors organized an all day bus tour for the Chapel Hill Realtors to see up close and personal what is happening in northern Chatham County. For months we had heard about the planned explosion of housing that was taking place out there but until you really see it in person, it is hard to imagine! In all we toured over 40 homesites that are in various stages of development all the way from completed to approved but not out of the ground yet and everything in between! We saw huge developments like Briar Chapel (2389 units planned), Chapel Ridge (700 lots), Powell Place (910 units planned), The Legacy at Jordon Lake (475 lots) and The Preserve at Jordon Lake (475 total homes). We also saw alot of medium sized ones which included Cottages at Stonegate, Cedar Grove, Cedar Mount, Cattail Creek, The Bluffs, Henry's Ridge - the list goes on and on. What impressed me most is the size and price point of the homes being approved and built at the moment. There are gated communities, golf courses, spas, waterfalls - it's amazing! There are a few developments that start in the less expensive price range (the main one that comes to mind is Powell Place at the intersection of Hwy. 64 and 15-501 that has townhomes available under $200,000) but for the most part these homes start around $500,000 and go up and most GO UP! $800,000 seems to be the jump off point in many of them! I do want to point out that many of these have been approved contingent on the water supply problems being solved each step of the way. Therefore, if that is not under control, building will stop in many cases until that happens. The schools are working hard to keep up with this growth (www.chatham.K12.nc.us) and Woods Charter is expanding to provide a free public alternative to the present existing schools. Of course the little town of Pittsboro has all kinds of plans for expansion as does the entire area (please write me for lists of Bed and Breakfasts, Wineries, Dining, Shopping, etc.). Bottom line is, north Chatham is on the move and in a big way. I'd love to show you some of these developments in person if you're thinking about a move out there. The taxes are lower, lots are bigger - it's convenient to Chapel Hill, Raleigh and Durham. Check it out!
